Here's how the weekend unfolded:

On Saturday, 12th October our U18 Girls travelled to Northants Lightning, at home our U18 Boys took on Bromsgrove Bears, the U16 Boys played Shrewsbury Storm, and the U14 Boys took on Stourport Spartans. Sunday, 13th October, saw two cup games played at home U18 Boys vs Ballers Heaven Warwickshire Warriors and U16 Boys vs Leicester Riders

Saturday, 12th October:

U18 Girls @ Northants Lightning

Result: Team Slam Wins 72 - 36 The SLAM U18 Girls continued their unbeaten streak in the league with a dominant away win against Northants Lightning. Coach Evans focused on defensive intensity from the outset, and the girls exceeded expectations. Every player contributed, applying relentless pressure that led to numerous scoring opportunities on the fast break. The energy and teamwork on the defensive end were pivotal in securing this victory, pushing the team further up the league standings.

  • Head Coach Marc Evans shared his thoughts:

"The slam girls continued their unbeaten start in the league with a comfortable away win vs a strong Northants Lightning team. Coach Evans was looking for defensive intensity from the outset and the girls more than delivered. Every player contributed to this win applying defensive pressure leading to good scoring opportunities on the break."

U18 Boys vs Bromsgrove Bears

Result: Team Slam wins 63-60

In a solid home game performance, our U18 Boys took on Bromsgrove Bears and walked away with a well-earned victory. Despite a tight first half, the team adjusted their offensive strategy in the second half, breaking through Bromsgrove's defence and securing the win. Standout performances came from our guards, who handled the pressure with finesse.

  • Head Coach Dan Hollyholmes shared his thoughts:

"It was not a great start to the game, but the second half, we came together as a team and got the job done"

U16 Boys vs Shrewsbury Storm

Result: Slam Wins 71 -38

Another impressive win for our U16 Boys' team last weekend, as they dominated Shrewsbury Storm with a 33-point victory! It was a fantastic all-around team effort, and it was great to see the boys working together, executing plays, and supporting each other on both ends of the floor. Everyone stepped up, and it’s clear the hard work in training is paying off. Looking forward to building on this momentum in the next game!

U14 Boys @ Stourport Spartans U14s

Result: Spartans Wins 79-56

The U14 Boys faced a challenging game against the Stourport Spartans, losing 79-56. Despite the score, the boys fought hard throughout and showed resilience against a strong Spartans side. This was a learning experience for the team, and there's plenty to build on as they continue to develop and grow this season. Keep your heads up and stay focused on the progress ahead, boys!

  • Coach Watson Chirara had this to say:

"It was a tough battle, and the Spartans came out strong. They executed well, particularly against our defence. We started off a bit slow, especially in picking up our men and sticking to our assignments. This led to too many fouls and gave them plenty of chances to capitalise on this. Spartans went on a strong run, using their fast breaks. Our defence wasn’t active enough in stopping them early, allowing them to gain momentum."

Sunday, 13th October:

U18 Boys vs Warwickshire Warriors

Result: Warwickshire Warriors Wins 84 - 66

Another tough matchup for the U18 Boys as they faced a well-drilled Warwickshire Warriors side in the cup, resulting in a 66-84 loss. Despite the scoreline, there were flashes of potential, with the team showing moments of brilliance on both ends of the court. As the season progresses, there’s no doubt that the boys will continue to build, improve, and rise to the challenges ahead.

U16 Boys vs Leicester Riders

Result: Leicester Riders Wins 78 -73

The U16 Boys put up a strong fight against a tough Leicester Riders team but unfortunately fell just short. It was a hard-fought game from start to finish, with the boys showing resilience and determination throughout. Despite the result, the effort was commendable, and the team will take away valuable lessons as they look ahead to their next challenge. Keep your heads up, boys, and let’s bounce back stronger!
