This past weekend was an absolute showcase of talent, determination, and grit as Team Wolverhampton SLAM! took to the courts in five thrilling games across different age groups. From home turf battles to intense away matchups. Here's a breakdown of how the action unfolded:
Saturday, 28th September:
U16 Boys vs Birmingham Bears U16s
Result: SLAM Wins 83 - 40
A big win for our U16 Boys' Team last weekend! The boys played with incredible intensity, pulling off a dominant performance from start to finish. It’s great to see things coming together for our team! This victory sets a promising tone for the rest of the season!
U18 Boys vs Gloucester City Kings U18s
Result: SLAM Wins 81 - 31
Another strong win for our U18 Team, securing a commanding 50-point victory over a developing Gloucester side. The team’s defensive pressure and offensive execution were on full display.
Head Coach Dan Hollyhomes had this to say:
"We've had a good start to the season, achieving strong wins in our first cup and league games. There's been a big improvement in intensity, focus, and discipline in our training, and it's made the difference in our games. However, we still have a lot to improve on to prepare for tougher competition as the season continues, but I think we are up for the challenge."
U14 Boys @ Birmingham Bears U14s
Result: Birmingham Bears Wins 54 - 51 A tough game on the road for our U14 Boys, but the effort was undeniable. Despite the narrow loss, the boys erased a 14-point deficit in the 4th quarter to tie the game. Unfortunately, a last-minute three-pointer sealed our fate, but the team’s resilience is something to be proud of.
Head Coach Watson Chirara shared his thoughts:
"Despite a narrow 54-51 loss to the Birmingham Bears, the team showed incredible resilience, especially considering it was their first game of the season and, for some, their first game ever. A commendable effort! On to the next one!"
Sunday, 29th September:
U18 Girls @ Lancashire Spinners
Result: SLAM Wins 64 - 39
A great win for our U18 Girls Team, securing a convincing victory away from home against a team that finished 2nd in the league last year. The girls dominated from the start and showed why they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
Head Coach Marc Evans commented:
"Against an established team, the SLAM! girls showed their strength by securing a solid 39-64 victory. There were lots of positives but also areas to improve as we progress in this league."
Women @ West Brom Basketball
Result: West Brom Basketball Wins 69 - 30
A tough game for our Women’s Team as they faced a strong West Brom side. Although the result didn’t go our way, this experience will only fuel their determination for future games. As always, we recognize, we work, we adapt, and we move forward!
A brilliant weekend of basketball for Team SLAM! With five games and three wins, there is a lot to take away from both the victories and the losses. What’s clear is that our teams are hungry for success this season!
A massive thank you to all the players, coaches, and supporters who made this weekend one to remember. The energy, passion, and commitment from everyone involved are second to none, and we’re excited to carry this momentum forward.
