Result: Rebels win 77 - 69Kicking off the weekend, the SLAM Men’s Team took on the Birmingham Rebels in a game full of pace, skill, and strategy. Leading by 10 points heading into the fourth quarter, the team looked set to claim victory. But despite the strong start, the Rebels rallied in the final stretch, capitalizing on some key moments to take the win 77-69. As our player-coaches reflected, managing both playing and coaching duties added a challenge—some strategic substitutions and timeouts might have secured the game. However, this experience was a valuable learning moment for the squad, and they’re determined to channel it into future games.

The U14 boys came out strong and earned their second win in impressive fashion. Jamaar and Tobi put in phenomenal performances, each logging double-doubles—JamaarĀ tallied 16 points and 16 rebounds, while TobiĀ followed closely with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Their chemistry was evident as they pushed forward offensively and cleaned up the boards. From a fantastic start to a victorious finish, the team’s focus and hustle were on full display, making this victory a great boost for the rest of their season. With such balanced contributions, they’re a team to watch in the upcoming games.

  • Head Coach Watson Chirara had this to say:

The game was a fantastic display of teamwork and resilience, and Jamaar and Tobi were key to our success on both ends of the floor. Offensively, they set the tone early and kept us in rhythm by consistently finding ways to attack the basket. Their energy was contagious, and seeing them both record double-doubles showed just how much they’re contributing to the team’s progress.Defensively, they brought the intensity we needed, locking down the paint and forcing critical turnovers, especially in the second and third quarters. That defensive effort was the backbone of our lead, and it’s this kind of grit and focus we’ll need to carry forward. The fourth quarter was a learning experience—highlighting the importance of maintaining that same focus until the final buzzer.Overall, I’m incredibly proud of each player’s effort, and as we build on this game, consistency and discipline will be key. Well done, boys! Let’s keep pushing forward!
